The Giffard Iron Bartender cocktail competition is back! Submissions are open and will be accepted until April 15 with all contestants being announced by April 20th. The winner of this competition will travel to Angers, France with the winner of Speed Rack Canada to compete in the Global finals in June.

Canadian Bartenders have always done extremely well in this cocktail competition with a handful of winners coming from Vancouver – many times winning both first and second place in the finals!

This is always an exciting competition and this year should prove no different!

Finalists Announced: April 20, 2015
Competition date:  3, 2015 – Time: 1pm-5pm May 3, 2015
Location: The Keefer Bar

The Canadian finalist will be chosen in the traditional format of creating an original cocktail using a selected Giffard ingredient. The highest score based on CPBA judging format will join the Speed Rack winner to compete in Angers.

Entry: Applicants will submit an original cocktail recipe containing a minimum of 15 ml Giffard Wild Elderflower Liqueur on or before April 15, 2015 (If required, a sample of Giffard Wild Elderflower will be provided by the sponsor) Contestants for the competition will be announced on April 20, 2015 and will be chosen only from these submissions.

Contestants will prepare one cocktail per their submission recipe for each of the 4 judges on the day of the competition. (4 identical cocktails). Each bartender will have 6 minutes to create and present their drinks. Scores will be deducted by 1 point per every 30 seconds over the six minute time limit.

Points will be awarded for presentation, appearance, aroma, flavor, balance and exemplification of the feature ingredient. (Standard CPBA scoring applies – see below)

** Contestants must provide any spirits & ingredients needed for their cocktail, and their own tools and glassware for the preparation and presentation of the cocktail.

** Speed Rack entries are also eligible to enter the original cocktail competition, but the winner of Speed Rack will not be able to compete the following day at Giffard Iron Bartender Competition.

Prizing: The winner of Speed Rack and the contestant with the highest score in Giffard Iron Bartender will win a chance to compete in the international finals of the Giffard Cocktail competition in Angers, France. Contestants must be available for travel to France June 8, 2015 for the 130th Birthday of Giffard.

This is a CPBA competition.* Rules and scoring are per CPBA standards. The CPBA is a national Bartending organization dedicated to fostering the community and craft of Bartending in Canada. For more information and on-line membership sign-up, please go to www.canadianbartenders.com

The competition is open to all members of the Canadian Professional Bartenders Association. Travel, accommodation to & from the competition venue is the responsibility of the competitor.

About Giffard Elderflower:
Fleur de Sureau Sauvage /Wild Elderflower Liqueur
